Rocky Linux becomes KDE's newest Patron

Rocky Linux throws its support behind KDE, becoming our latest patron.

Rocky Linux is a stable, community-driven, and production-ready Linux distribution designed to be fully compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Rocky Linux powers clouds, supercomputers, servers, and workstations around the world.

"Sustainable Open Source depends on great open-source communities supporting each other" said Brian Clemens, Co-founder and Vice President of the Rocky Enterprise Software Foundation. "We do our best to support our upstreams, and backing KDE was an easy choice for us given the popularity of the Rocky Linux KDE spin."

KDE endorses the UN's Open Source Principles

The UN Open Source Principles are comprised of eight guidelines and provide a framework to guide the use, development and sharing of open source software across the United Nations. This is part of the UN's Open Source United (OSU) initiative, which aims to coordinate and increase open source efforts across the United Nations system.

According to OSU:

"Across the UN, teams are building powerful digital tools, but much of this work is isolated. Open Source United breaks these silos, encourages collaboration, and makes innovation easier to share and reuse. By working together, we deliver solutions that are more transparent, sustainable, and cost-effective."

Alongside another 119 FLOSS organisations, KDE will support the effort to connect UN teams and their partners, as well as the global community, encouraging them to share, discover and reuse open-source solutions in their work to carry out the UN’s mission worldwide.

KDE e.V. elects new board members

KDE e.V. held its annual general meeting online. During the AGM, elections for two vacancies on the board of directors were held. Members Carl Schwan and David Redondo were elected and take a seat on the board.

We would like to thank Nate Graham and Adriaan de Groot for serving on the board during their terms.

Symless Becomes KDE's Supporter

Symless is the latest company to officially help fund KDE.

Symless develops Synergy, an open source solution that allows users to share a keyboard, mouse, and clipboard across several computers at the same time, without extra hardware and regardless of whether they are using Linux, Windows, macOS, or a mix of all of the above.

“Becoming a Supporting Member of KDE is a natural step for us", stated the Synergy team representative. "Synergy is heavily rooted in open source, and we want to give back to the community that made it possible. By supporting KDE financially and contributing to upstream projects like Deskflow, we’re helping ensure open source software remains sustainable for both enthusiasts and enterprises”.
